Key Stage 3
Careers Education is all about finding out about oneself and about opportunities and making the perfect match! To increase self-awareness, the CEG programme starts in Upper 4 (Year 9) with registration on “Fast Tomato”, a website designed to help young people explore their career ideas. During the U4 course, girls learn about setting targets, making action plans and consider the relationship between individuals, work and society. Upper 4s receive individual guidance on option choices for GCSE. As a “taster” for work-experience, they participate in Take Our Daughters To Work day.
Key Stage 4
Lower 5 girls have the opportunity to take the Morrisby Profile aptitude tests and interest guide at the end of the Spring Term and have an individual interview with the Head of Careers to discuss the results.
Upper 5s have a short course called “Introduction to Myers Briggs”. Girls have the opportunity to consider their personality type which can be helpful in career planning.
All U5 girls have a one to one discussion with a member of staff, chosen carefully from a team of eight advisers, in order to consider their AS choices.
Key Stage 5
All Lower 6th students have a week’s work-experience in the Autumn Term. Students write a report afterwards and make a presentation to their house. L6 students have a weekly careers lesson in small groups. The focus is on Higher Education and how to make an informed choice of course. At the end of the Summer Term, Activities Week for the Lower 6th is designed to give them an insight into how to make a successful application to universities of their choice.
Upper 6th students are supported throughout the process of UCAS applications.
Pupils from Year 10 upwards are encouraged to attend the biennial careers convention at St. Catherine’s where they can speak to practitioners representing a wide range of professions.
The Careers Library is open every lunch time and the Head of Careers is available at other times by appointment.
