Duke of Edinburgh Report May 2010
Bronze
84 girls from the Lower 5 have completed training and a practice expedition for Bronze and will be completing their assessed expedition on the weekend of 12th/13th June. They will walk in 13 different groups and camp at the scout camp site in Tilford. Many of these girls work in charity shops for their volunteering section but they also help with local Brownies and Guides, in Sunday schools and with sports activities through the sports leadership scheme.
Silver
61 girls from the Upper 5 have completed training and a practice expedition in the New Forest. Their assessed expedition is during Activities week and we travel to Bristol on 4th July and stay at the University overnight. The three day expedition is completed on Exmoor which gives girls a taste of the kind of conditions they will experience if they go on to Gold. Many of the girls help at Bramley fete for their volunteering section and contributed a number of popular activities including face painting. There was also a group of girls helping regularly at Bramley Infants’ School.
Gold
Altogether 36 girls are completing their Gold expedition section this Summer either on the North York Moors or in Wester Ross, Scotland. The girls going to Scotland will experience wild camping and true wilderness conditions. At this level girls are able to help with running the award for their volunteering section and this year there are 16 Bronze award leaders supporting the Bronze participants.
