Music is an essential part of life at St Catherine's, and the extra-curricular timetable provides many opportunities for girls of different abilities and age groups. Musical talent abounds in the school, and all girls are encouraged to take part.
The quality, diversity and number of musical ensembles in the school is remarkable. For singers there are nine choirs (U3 Choir, Fourth Form Choir, Middle Chamber Choir, Middle Cantores, Senior Choir, Senior Chamber Choir, Cantores, Chapel Choir and the Association Choir), whilst instrumentalists can join the Symphony Orchestra, Camerata, String Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Wind Band, Brass Ensemble, Harp Ensemble, Early Music Consorts (including crumhorns), Rock groups and the Fife & Drum Band. In addition, there is a large Chamber Music programme consisting of many duos, trios, quartets and other small ensembles.
