Welcome to the St Catherine's Senior School Library. Very much a combination of the traditonal and the progressive, the School's aim to foster independent learning in all its girls is embodied in the Library. The calm atmsophere allows for focused and purposeful private study and there is a significant catalogue of books available for loan and reference use as well as a vast online facility,
The Library houses a collection of over 13,500 titles supporting teaching and learning across the curriculum from Upper 3 through to Sixth Form. The Library supports an extensive subscription list of magazines and subscribes to the daily papers including 3 foreign language newspapers, which are distributed throughout the school. The library also subscribes to an impressive list of E-Learning services. Access to the E-Learning page is password protected. These services are for the pupils and staff of St Catherines. The specific logins for each of the E-Learning products are given on the E-Learning page. The services include two general encyclopedias as well as more subject specific databases supporting particular curriculum areas including all the A-Level magazines.
The Library is open seven days a week from 8.00 am - 9.00 pm. It is staffed by the Senior School Librarian from 9.00 am - 4.20 pm Monday to Friday and at other times by the teaching and boarding staff. The library is available to day pupils after school for quiet study and homework. At all times pupils are expected to observe the published Library Code of Conduct when using the facility.
The Library operates two separate borrowing systems. During the manned opening hours there is a computerized loans system in operation. Pupils are allowed to borrow a maximum of 6 books for a period of 3 weeks. Staff may borrow up to 12 books for a period of 6 weeks. Books may be renewed once, after which they must be returned to the library.
