The best way to find out what St. Catherine’s students think about weekly boarding is to come to visit and ask them yourself.
In the lower boarding house, Symes, life is about learning how to combine schoolwork and meeting new people - often over cocoa and biscuits. By the Upper Sixth, girls have learned to manage their time and workload, and established friendships that last for life.
Like all boarding schools St. Catherine’s offers a pretty ‘full-on’ lifestyle. At the same time girls also benefit from going home at weekends to enjoy time with friends, siblings and parents.
One thing that is clear - girls who weekly board appreciate the academic support from staff, older girls and their peers. Here’s what they’ve told us:
‘When you actually have supervised prep you really do get more work done!’
‘When you’ve not quite understood a problem, it’s great when you have your friends and older girls to help you.’
St Catherine’s girls who weekly board are also very vocal about the pastoral side of life:
‘With weekly boarding you have the time to get way more involved.’
‘Because of weekly boarding you make friends with people you might not otherwise meet - it’s like a family, but different.’
‘When you first start to board you learn to look out for each other - and those friendships really last.’
‘The good thing is you get to know the older girls too - they really share things with you.’
‘What could be more fun than spending your time with your best friends - there’s always someone to spend time with.’
‘There’s always something going on and something to do - you never get bored like you do at home sometimes.’
