Drama is not simply a subject, but also, more importantly, a method; it is both a creative art form in its own right and also a learning tool.
Drama is one of the key ways in which children can gain an understanding of themselves and others; can gain confidence in themselves as decision makers and problem solvers; can learn to function collaboratively; and can explore, within a supportive framework, not only a range of human feelings, but also a whole spectrum of social situations and/or moral dilemmas.
Knowledge and understanding of cultural issues is integral to the study of Drama and Theatre Studies, which both historically and in contemporary practice presents an interpretation of the values and patterns of humanity which form the basis of a society’s cultural identity.
