The Jennifer Bate Organ Academy is an outstanding opportunity for young women organists to develop their all-round musicianship.

The course is designed to explore and discover wider performance skills, proving excellent training and a greater breadth of experience, particularly for those considering university scholarships and conservatoire applications as well as candidates for the higher ABRSM examinations and RCO diplomas.  A number of previous participants have gone on to become organ scholars at Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Course Itinerary

The internationally–acclaimed virtuoso Dr. Jennifer Bate leads the course, assisted by a team of outstanding specialists offering masterclasses in:

  • Choral Direction
  • Ensemble Performance
  • Improvisation
  • Repertoire
  • Service Accompaniment

Instruments used on the course, including some rarely available for public performance, have been specially selected to concentrate on particular aspects of performance.

The course is residential, offering participants the opportunity to make full use of the facilities at the school. 

Applicants are encouraged from all ability levels; the course itinerary is flexible and can be tailored to meet individual needs.

Repertoire

Course participants are able to work on repertoire of their choice for the Baroque and Romantic/20th Century Masterclasses (including pieces from RCO and ABRSM syllabuses) as well as set accompaniment and ensemble pieces.

Course Tutors include:

  • Dr. Jennifer Bate OBE - Masterclasses in Ensemble Performance and Romantic / 20th century repertoire.
    Sarah Baldock - Organist and Master of the Choristers at Chichester Cathedral -  Choral Direction and Service Accompaniment.
  • Stephen Farr - Director of Music at St. Paul’s, Knightsbridge and Worcester College, Oxford - Baroque Performance Masterclass.
  • Ronny Krippner – Improvisation. 
  • Tim Uglow – Continuo.

Course Fee

The course fee is £355 which includes all masterclasses, guided practice sessions, accommodation and full board in a family setting.
