1967 Leavers Liz Chalwin (Garrett), Debbie Gauvain (Couchman) and Jane Smith (Chare) decided that the year in which they all turned 60 would be the perfect opportunity to gather some of their old school friends for a celebratory birthday lunch. All three ladies serve on the Old Girls’ Committee and, rather than hold the party at one of their homes, approached the school to see if it would be possible to hold the lunch at St Catherine’s. The Conference Room was duly booked for them and the ladies liaised with the Association Director for help with contact details for their invitations. They also engaged the school caterers, Harrisons, who put on a delicious buffet lunch for their guests at a very reasonable cost per head.
Friday 29th May was a beautiful sunny day during half term so the party practically had the school to themselves! The day was a great success with some guests staying all afternoon and re-visiting old haunts around school. Many of those unable to attend sent their regrets, hailing the party as ‘a great idea’ and saying ‘please do it again!’.
