Old Girls' Day 2006
Old Girls' Day this year took place on a beautiful sunny Sunday in September. The theme was the Prep School as the many refurbishments are now complete. It was a pleasure to see old girls and former staff from many different eras of the School sharing their memories of the past and their impressions of the present.

This shared link between so many is what, we feel, makes the St Catherine’s Association so special.

We began the day with a moving service in Chapel at which the new lighting, so generously gifted to the school by an anonymous donor, and the new altar frontal beautifully made by member of staff Jan Davies, were dedicated.

We were also delighted to welcome back old girl Pietra Mello-Pitman, now a member of the Royal Ballet who danced a sols for us and spoke about her career.

This was particularly exciting for the whole of Upper 3, who were in school for an Activity Day and were brought in to see Pietra.

After her talk, members of staff and visitors enjoyed talking to Pietra and having a close look at her beautiful tutu. One old girl particularly enjoyed this as she had also been a dancer.

The Headmistress was especially pleased to note that Pietra credited much of her success to the self discipline she was encouraged to develop whilst a pupil at St Catherine’s.

At the meeting, two 2006 Leavers, Vicky Green and Sophie Jonathan, gave presentations about their Gap Years.

Vicky was awarded the PTA Travel Bursary this year, and Sophie the Old Girls' Travel Bursary. Both presentations were amusing, interesting and thought provoking.

You can read the full reports and see further photos on the Gap Students pages of this website.

Some of the old girls and former staff who had been part of what was then the Junior School were amazed by the stunning new facilities, and particularly enjoyed talking to the ten year old pupils from Year 6 who had kindly volunteered to show our visitors round their school. It was heartening to see the thoughtfulness and pride with which they did this.

A most enjoyable day concluded with tea and delicious home made cakes and a chance to catch up and reminisce. We were very pleased to be joined by all four of the Francis sisters, 1950s leavers, who now live in England, Ireland, Scotland and Australia respectively and are not often all together.
