The Anniversary Halls Rise From the Ground

Remarkable progress is being achieved daily since the Governors made their historic decision to commission the building of the new Sports Complex and the shell of the Assembly and Performance Hall.

Construction work began in July so that maximum use was made of the Summer Holidays to complete the heavy excavation and foundation work. The main steel framework of the Sports Complex is now in position and the basement level of the Assembly and Performance Centre has been dug. The Sports Complex is due to be completed and opened during the Autumn of 2010 at the start of the 125th Anniversary Year. The girls of all ages from 4 to 18 years old will then be able to enjoy these outstanding indoor facilities to match their skills outdoors.

Funding for both the fully fitted Sports Complex and the shell of the Assembly and Performance Hall is in place. The generosity of those who have already given to the Development Fund is very much appreciated as their support has been instrumental in driving the whole project forward. The School is enormously grateful to these donors across the St Catherine’s Association and their generosity is acknowledged on the Roll of Donors.

With such support the Governors were able to seize this opportunity to make considerable savings on projected costs offered by competitive tenders. This decision to build the shell of the Assembly and Performance Hall ensures one continuous construction period, the interior being fitted out with further funding at a later stage.

The most cost effective way of funding the fitting out would be if this could take place as the shell is completed. The School would negotiate a continuation of the contract with the builders so avoiding the need for renewed start up costs and further rising costs owing to inflation. £2.3 million gift aided will enable this fitting out to take place so that the girls can use this wonderful hall for assemblies, drama, music and public speaking.

Contributions to the Development Fund at all levels will bring forward the opening of the Assembly and Performance Hall. For further details of the Fund, naming opportunities and donation forms please follow the link 'Funding the Future'. Support for the Development Fund since its foundation has come from single donations, standing orders, interest free loans and legacies.

The St Catherine's School Development Fund was launched at Prize Giving 2008 by Mrs Phillips, Headmistress of the Senior School, and Mrs Jefferies, Headmistress of the Prep. School. The fund supports capital developments which can not be financed from school income alone. Click here to view their speech.

Further details of the Development Fund and the the Governors' Plans can be seen in 'Funding the Future'. These plans build on 'A Vision for the Future'which was enthusiastically supported by the Association.

Support for the Development Fund in its very first eighteen months has already raised over £1 million. Please click here for details on how to give, to download donation forms and naming options.

Further details of how the Sports Complex and Assembly and Performance Centre will be used by all the girls in both the Senior and Prep.Schools and energy conservation in these buildings can be found in the Development Fact File.
