Managing change

The school has already planned a range of measures that will be supervised by the Estates/Project Manager to ensure minimum disruption to the life of the School and its current students during the construction period. These include a full assessment of all phases of the demolition elements and subsequent building phases, some of which will be much noisier than others. The main points include:

•All construction traffic will use the specially designated route which will take this traffic off the A281 to the site at a point North of the Bramley Roundabout via an existing entrance to a house owned by the School. An application for permission for this temporary route was submitted in May 2008. Such traffic will also be asked to approach from the North, too, and at times which will not impact on drop off and pick up time at School and heavier local traffic
•Parents and girls will continue to use the main entrance off Station Road

•Delivery of large materials will be at designated times outside the teaching day, while the actual building site will become an exclusion zone both for the public and the School

•The site can be screened off very effectively along its southern perimeter and masked from view

•Symes boarders will be able to use accommodation in Main School when necessary

•Disruption by noise to nearby classes in West Block and the Millennium Building, adjacent to the building site, will be minimised by close liaison between the Estates Manager/Project Manager and the contractors which will be a requirement in their contract

•The public examinations and mock examinations will be relocated if necessary to the Bramley Village Hall and the Holy Trinity Church Parish Hall to ensure no disruption

•The P.E department will have priority use of the Speech Hall for dance and gymnastics during the period when the current gym is demolished and the new complex not completed. The girls will change in the boarding accommodation while the PE staff will have a temporary portakabin for their office and extra storage space for equipment
