Sports News 10th July
|
|
|
We would like to thank all girls and parents for helping to make 2007-2008 such a successful year for the PE department. There have been so many highlights to the year, from National achievement to local triumph, but the greatest success has been the huge number of girls who are regularly involved in extra-curricular sport for the pure love and enjoyment of just taking part. We wish you a happy and healthy summer; keep on training hard as we have some very important fixtures early on in the autumn term!
ATHLETICS
On Monday 30th June we travelled to Birmingham for the national finals of the IAPS athletics competition. Three prep School girls had qualified in a number of events and had a very successful day. Phoebe was placed 7th and 8th in the discus and javelin competition and Lois came 6th in her heat of the 200m. Rebecca won two medals, a bronze in the 100ms and a gold in the 800m. She broke the old 800m record, which had stood since 1989, by a huge amount and was crowned as national champion. This was an amazing achievement and Rebecca, who is always very modest, should be very proud of herself.

TENNIS
On Tuesday 1st July members of the U10 tennis squad and Lauren, the school tennis captain played in a friendly tennis match against St. Ives. It was an excellent opportunity for the girls and for some it was their first experience of playing a school match. The girls had to serve, keep the score and work together with their partner. The girls involved were Lauren, Isabella, Kesney, Olivia, Cassie, Alys, Phoebe and Charlotte.

ROUNDERS
On Tuesday 1st July the U8 and U9A&B rounders teams played the last rounders match of the season against St. Ives. The U9s had two close games with the As winning 23½-19 and the Bs losing 10½-18. For the U8s this was their first match and they were superb. The other team had already played four matches and were more experienced than us but our girls learnt a great deal and show potential for the future.
NEW PREP SCHOOL TRACKSUIT
As from September 2008 it will be compulsory for all girls from Form One to LIII to have the new style tracksuit as part of their P.E. kit. This tracksuit, which is similar to the school squad tracksuit has been optional for the past academic year and is available from the school shop. Name tapes should be sewn on the inside.

KIT
|
Please remember to take your P.E. kit home fortnightly so it can be washed and checked on a regular basis. This is especially important in the summer when the weather is hot and the girls do lots of running in lessons. Could we also ask that your daughter clearly names her tennis racket before bringing it into school.
Please could you assist your daughter to ensure that she has all her correct P.E. kit in school every day. Sometimes we need to change lessons and it is helpful if their kit is always available.
We suggest that on ‘Cat’s Eyes’ Fridays, PE kit goes home!
We appreciate your assistance.
SPORTS KIT
We have enrolled at In Training Ltd which is a ski hire and sports wear shop in Haslemere. For every item that parents buy at the shop St. Catherine’s will get awarded points. We can then exchange our points for equipment.
