Thank you to our Charity Monitors (Claudia, Isobel, Charlotte and Ellie-Ming) for their help and suggestions over the course of this year. But thanks also to all of the girls and their parents who have continued to work hard raising money for our nominated charities and persisted with their inventive ideas and suggestions for future events and possible good causes. From Imogen and Amelia, who raised money on a make-shift stall outside their house selling gems for the Haiti Appeal, to the buzz and fervour of the House cake sales, every girl has in some way been involved in raising money this year.
Overall we have raised £4,747.72 of which £881.15 has been for our ongoing collection for the One Star Public School in India and £1,619.84 for the Disasters Emergency Commission Haiti Appeal. Anisha will be visiting the One Star Public School again this summer so will be able to present our donation in person and promises to take photos and come back and report on how the school is developing.
Our latest venture was to collect second hand sports shoes and trainers to send to the IndoChina Starfish Foundation, a charity working in Cambodia with some of the countries poorest children. Charity monitors assisted in the collection and girls were delighted to see their donations loaded onto a lorry for a shipment destined via Hong Kong to Cambodia.
Planning and discussions are already underway for events and fundraising opportunities for the next academic year so there is a great deal to look forward to.
We would be delighted to hear of any charity events and fundraising the girls are involved with over the summer.
Have a very happy holiday,
Miss Bartholomew

Haiti Collection
Many thanks for our last push to raise money for the Disasters Emergency Commission fundraising for victims of the Haiti disaster. Our total prior to the Green House Cake Sale was £1,382.44 which came from a series of events over the course of the last two terms. Thank you to all of you for your efforts from spare change dropped in the collection box in the office, to individual ventures such as that of Imogen and Amelia Heywood who sold Imogen's collection of gemstones outside their house and raised £11.50. Our final cake sale of the year was held by Green House this morning and has added£237.50. Bringing our total for the year to £1,619.94.

Animals Asia
Following a recent talk in assembly given by Nicky Vivyan-Robinson to the Lower ΙΙΙ’s about the charity Animals Asia, Mrs Hodgkiss and Mrs Patterson have decided that instead of giving the girls an Easter Egg this year they will make a donation on behalf of the LІІІgirls to befriend a Moon Bear. This donation will buy treats like fruit ice block, toys, honey, raisins and tofu-filled bamboo shoots, which will keep them occupied for hours!
The bear that has been befriended is called Banjo and we should shortly have a photo to display. There will be updates and new photo later in the year.

Haiti Collection
The Yellow House Cake Sale was a great success with lots of delicious treats. The Cake sale raised an impressive £293.55 for the Haiti Appeal and the excitement was added to by the Lucky Number Draw organised by Jessica and Harriet (UІІL). Including the sale of tickets, which added another £96 bringing the total money raised so far to £1296.58. I had shared my hope with the school that we would reach the £1000 mark by the end of this term and as usual with such tremendous support from parents, teachers and the girls the target was surpassed. In discussion with the Charity Monitors it has been decided to continue to collect for the Haiti Appeal and so the Proceeds of Green House Cake Sale on 28th May will also be towards this worthy and ongoing cause.

Charity Update
Girls and staff lit candles and said prayers for the victims of the Haiti disaster on Tuesday 19th January. £298 in donations was collected on that day and will be added to our ongoing collection this term. There is a collection box in the Prep. School Reception area and our two cake sales this term will also collect money to send to the Disasters Emergency Committee which allocates funds to a number of different charities working to provide immediate and lasting aid to the people in the region. Plastic Milk Bottle Tops
The school are collecting the ‘screw-top tops’ from plastic milk bottle in order to raise money to buy a voice synthesizer for a disabled child. A collection box is available in the school office. Please give the tops a rinse if necessary. Thank you. So far 10,000 lids have been collected, after initially being asked to collect 3,000. As we have done so well we have been asked to keep collecting so save them over the holiday to bring into school in January.

Poppy Appeal and Remebrance Day
The Royal British Legion have confirmed that we raised £100.41 in our poppy sale appeal this year. The staff felt it very important for the school to take part in a two minute silence on Wednesday 11th. November. In the morning the girls were told the significance of the day through an assembly led by Form IB. Just before 11am a bell was rung and each class in Key Stage Two stopped work and were silent. The Pre-Prep girls also marked the silence in Bramley Church where they were joined by children from Bramley Infants' School. It seemed that this year the event was particularly poignant due to the continuing situation in Afghanistan. Although our girls are so young we are impressed by their level of maturity when such events take place.

Harvest Festival
Thank you to everyone who so generously contributed to the retiring collection during our recent Harvest Festival. The money raised £850.91 will be shared between St Peter and St Paul Church, Godalming and the One Star Public School, in Bagli, India. The boxes went to Vaughan House, which provides short-term accommodation for the homeless in Guildford and caters for up to 45 residents aged between 18 and 65 years old. The organisation also supports residents in a number of local ‘halfway’ houses where the homeless are given practical help before re-entering main-stream society. The service was well attended and our particular thanks to the PTA for the wonderful decorations which adorned St Peter and St Paul Church, Godalming.

Mother Teresa Crib Figure
Guildford Cathedral has written to thank everyone at St Catherine’s Prep School for our donation towards the final amount of £1,100 which helped them raise funds to buy figures for the Christmas Crib. The girls in Teresa were keen to sponsor the Mother Teresa figure. The marvellous crib was designed and made by Lt Cdr Michael Lethbridge. It can be viewed in the Children’s Chapel from mid December to early February. It is an imaginative piece of carving that puts the story of the Incarnation within the context of Christ’s life, death and resurrection. It features recent and living Christians in a room above the stable.

Mrs Daniell would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone for their sponsorship and support. She raised over £2,000 and, at 3am in the morning, this helped to spur her on her way! Mrs Daniell is now collecting her sponsorship money. Cheques can be made payable to ‘Walk the Walk Worldwide’ or she is happy to be given cash.
