Welcome to the Library
The Prep School Library is generally open from 8.30 am - 4.00pm Monday through Friday during term time. The library is staffed entirely by a group of parent volunteers, the Bibliocats. The girls are encouraged to visit the library during morning break, lunch break and after school. In addition, most forms have a regularly scheduled period to visit the library each week for purposes of exchanging books, undertaking research or reading. The girls are expected to observe the published Library Conduct when visiting the library. The Bibliocats, working with members of staff, organise a range of activities which are meant to further stimulate the girls’ natural interest in stories, to learn more about their world and to relate to curriculum based topics. These activities include author visits, storytelling sessions, quizzes, book reviews, book club and either curriculum related or seasonal displays. Additionally, the Bibliocats Reading Scheme was launched in September 2007.

News
We hope many of you were able to visit the library during Open Day – and were suitably impressed with the new library. The winners of the library quiz (written by Liberty and Imogen of LIIK) were Alice (UIIL) and Charlotte (PPIIIB). Big thanks go to all the Bibliocats for their hard work this year in creating such a lively, colourful and comfortable space for the girls. The displays have been beautiful thanks to the collaborative effort of all the parent volunteers. Sadly, we say goodbye to three Bibliocats as they move onto new and interesting adventures. They have been absolutely terrific at manning the very busy lunchtimes on Thursdays and Fridays all year. And last, but not least, thanks to Lucy and Kate, our LIII library monitors, and Ellie (LIIIP), our Friday lunchtime librarian, for their help and support throughout the year.
With summer holidays now upon us, you might want to consider visiting your local library and signing up for this year's Summer Reading Challenge called Space Hop. Children aged 4 - 11 years are welcome to participate. There are great books to read, and stickers, a fridge magnet, a glow-in-the-dark wristband and a rainbow pencil to collect. They will be asked to read 6 books to complete all three stages of their space mission, earning a special medal and a certificate. Space Hop blasts off in all Surrey libraries on Saturday 17 July – and it’s free! Libraries will be organising special Space Hop events, activities and competitions – so visit your local library and sign up for the challenge.

World Book Day Short Story/Poetry Competition
The short story written by Haidée , UIIM, was one of 16 selected for inclusion in the World Book Day Short Stories Competition Primary Anthology. Best-selling author Stewart Ross again judged the competition, and chose Haidée’s story from nearly 3,000 entries. During World Book Day assembly, a representative from Evans Brothers, the publisher organising the competition on behalf of World Book Day will present Haidée with her prize, which includes 100 books for the school. Congratulations to Haidée and all the other girls who participated in the competition. A copy of their entries can be found on the Prep School website in the Library section.

Recommendations
We would strongly encourage the girls and their parents to make recommendations about other events we should be hosting and of course, any good reads-either fiction and non-fiction books that are not currently stocked by the library.
