125th Anniversary of the founding of St Catherine’s School

To launch our 125th Anniversary, there will be a whole school photograph and individual portrait photographs taken of every girl in the school. The photography will take place on Thursday 9th September and Friday 10th September in Senior School and in addition, Monday 13th September in the Preparatory School. It will be important that all girls are dressed in WINTER UNIFORM. Members of the L6 should be wearing suits on both Thursday and Friday. We would be grateful if all girls could take extra care about their appearance at this time.

We are looking forward to some wonderful photographs that will provide a lasting memory of this particular birthday.

In the 125 birthday year we now can look forward to the new format calendar to be posted on the new website, but meanwhile here is a selection of dates for next term.

U3 Parents Evening on Wednesday 3^rd November
U6 Parents Evening on Thursday 11^th November
L4 Parents Evening on Tuesday 23^rd November
L5 Parents Evening on Monday 29^th November
All Parents Evenings take place in the Millennium Building and West Block from 6.30-9.30pm
U4, U5 and L6 will all receive reports in their end of term envelopes.

Other events next term include:
U6 UCAS Consultation with Tutors on Thursday 16^th September at 6.00pm
L6 Parents Informal tea-party with Tutors in the Dining Room on Friday 17^th September at 4.15pm
L6 Presentation Evening of GCSE Certificates on Friday 3^rd December at 6.30pm.

We have much to celebrate with the Cathedral Service on 24^th September and the Sixth Form Open Evening for U5 the same day.

We also look forward to the 30^th Anniversary Concert given by Guilford Chamber Choir, with St Catherine’s Middle Chamber Choir on Saturday 20^th November.

St Catherine’s Day is Friday 24^th November, with hard fought House Lacrosse, which will finish with our Gala Concert in the evening at 7.30pm.

The Carol Service, which all girls in the Senior School attend, is on Monday 13^th December at Guildford Cathedral.

Please be aware that the House Communions this academic year will be on Sundays at 5.00pm, followed by a glass of wine, squash and canapés.

This year’s Association Concert will end our Spring term with a performance of Carmina Burana at Holy Trinity Church, Guildford. on Saturday 26^th March. The first rehearsal will be at the start of next term on Wednesday 15^th September when the Senior Chamber Choir will also be present.

It is an exciting term to come, the above is just a flavour.

Drama

A Midsummer Night’s Dream– Middle School Production, 21 &22 October 2010:

An exciting and original take on the much loved classic!
Rehearsals for next term’s Middle School Production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream are now in full swing, with the cast of U3s and L4s tackling this challenging script with their boundless enthusiasm and energy. This year’s production promises to be a thrilling, energetic and surprising adaptation of the play.
Application forms will be available in the first copy of the Wheel next term. Watch this space!

OUR DAY OUT– SENIOR SCHOOL PRODUCTION 16, 17 & 18 FEBRUARY 2011

An entertaining but poignant musical by Willy Russell, the writer of 'Blood Brothers'. Not to be missed!

Bird's Eye View of the Development Site - Project 125

Work continues apace on the Sports Complex and Performance Centre. The Sports Complex is on course to open at the end of the Autumn term and the shell of the Performance Centre will have been fully constructed. All this work has been fully financed and the fitting out of the Performance Centre will be undertaken when further funding allows.
