Lacrosse - Indoor tournament
Last Tuesday the U15 and U18 Indoor lacrosse teams entered the Surrey Indoor tournament. It was great fun and played in good spirit and everyone enjoyed themselves. The U15’s took a while to warm up and get used to playing indoors and although they drew with GHS 4-4 they lost against Cranleigh and Claremont finishing in 4th place. The U18’s showed their wealth of experience and had convincing wins against Royal and Cranleigh. This set them up to play the last match against GHS, and after a very well contested match we came out victorious winning 4-3. Well done to all the girls but especially the U18 team who were made up of this year’s U6 - Stevie Wright, Sorcha Cotter, Emily Zaborski, Katy Wright, Row Trevellyan, Katie Evans, Emma Williamson and Sarah Taylor (who is injured but cheered on the sideline!)

The 1st lacrosse team played in a tournament last Sunday against some of the top schools in the country as part of their preparation for Nationals beating their 3 opposition: Downe House, Berkhamstead and Godolphin
U14 Lacrosse County Tournament
Wednesday 27th January, The U14A and B teams played in their county tournament held here at St Catherine’s. The level of competition was high, with some very good lacrosse played throughout the afternoon. The U14B team also had an exciting tournament. In the pool round they beat Putney and Caterham B team, drew with Dunottar, and narrowly lost against GHS A and Claremont. This put them through to the semi-finals of the plate competition, where they faced The Royal School A team. After full time and extra time neither team had managed to score, and the incredibly close game went to a penalty shoot out! Helen Steel played fantastically in goal, saving 6 penalty shots! But eventually The Royal School scored and won the game. Commendations go to the whole team, but again a special mention to Helen Steel who played fantastically in goal.

The A team won all 5 of their games in the pool section, beating: Caterham A, Coloma, The Royal, and GHS B and C teams. This put them through to the semi-finals against Putney, which they won in extra time after a very tense match. On to the final against arch rivals GHS. In an extremely close and well fought match, the girls lost 2-0, placing them 2nd overall. Commendations go to the whole team after a fantastic afternoon of lacrosse, and special mention to Charlie Allan who had a fantastic tournament!

The U12’s beat Wimbledon 4-1, Surbiton 9-1, Cranleigh 6-1 and Danes Hill 7-2, placing them 2nd overall, and gaining their place at the County Finals tournament in March. Alpine Skiing Regional Championships
Congratulations to Rachelle Rogers who has launched herself into 2010 with a flurry of podium positions. Firstly she qualified to compete in round one of the Savoie Alpine Ski championships in France by winning the District selection round in Val Thorens. She then claimed 4th in the Regional Super G event in Courchevel, 3rd in the Giant Slalom in Arêches Beaufort and stormed to a victorious 1st in the Slalom event at Notre Dame de Bellecombe.

Rachelle also managed to gain the highest number of competition points in the region and has earned the right to wear the red leader bib for the next event.. (akin to the yellow jersey in the Tour de France). 180 female competitors born in 1995 and 1996 are eligible to compete in the district rounds held within the region of Savoie. The top 35 from the region went on to compete in the first round of the National races, which include the top seeded girls from all the other French alpine regions. The first round of the Nationals was held in Megève, Les Saisies and Notre Dame de Bellecombe at the end of January. Rachelle came 6th overall in Slalom, 5th on one run and 3rd on one run of Giant Slalom. She finished the first round in 6th place on championship points, just one point short of a top 5.
