OCR 1900 (English) 60% Examination 40% Coursework

OCR 1901 (English Literature) 70% Examination 30% Coursework
Length of Examination: Two papers, one of 45 minutes, one of 1 hour 30 minutes
All girls follow an integrated course leading to separate certificates in English and English Literature. The specification as a whole is sub-divided into units, each of which assesses a particular area of content (reading, writing, speaking and listening inEnglish, different genres and periods in literature). During the two years of study, girls will complete a series of written and oral assignments, from which a final selection will be made for submission at the end of the Spring Term.
ENGLISH
Coursework: Oral 20% 3 assignments to be submitted, out of 6 or more
Written 20% 4 essays (3 of which are also assessed for Literature)
Examination: Unit 1 30% Non fiction and Media and Information (three tasks)
Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes
Unit 2 30% Different Cultures, Analysis and Argument (three tasks)
Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes
The two papers involve the comprehension of a variety of passages. There will also be extended 'essay' questions, both imaginative and informative, deriving from the set passages.
ENGLISH LITERATURE
Coursework 30% 3 essays, based on the study of 3 texts,
one poetry, one prose and one drama.
Examination: Unit 1 20% Drama (open book, one task)
Duration: 45 minutes
Unit 2 50% Poetry and Prose (open book, two tasks)
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Of the six texts studied, three must have been written before and three after the year 1914.
There is a single coursework folder for English/English Literature, with a maximum of four essays.
