Length of Examination: 2 hours

Food and Nutrition is a valuable subject which teaches many life skills and addresses current health and hygiene issues.

It gives the student the opportunity to increase their knowledge of Nutrition and develop practical skills and, at the same time, helps explain, through practical application, some of the theories learnt in the sciences.

As part of the course all students take the Royal Society of Health Essential Food Hygiene Examination and Basic Nutrition Certificate.

The coursework is made up of one investigation, chosen by the student, from a list set by the board. It includes three two hour practical sessions relevant to the chosen brief. This is marked internally and moderated by AQA.

The written assessment is a two hour examination set and marked by the board.

This subject offers many career opportunities within the food industry and is also particularly relevant in areas such as medicine, hospitality, social welfare, dietetics and sport.
