Paper Two 1 hour 30 minutes
GCSE Geography makes you think, as the course deals with the real world and the opportunities, challenges and constraints that face people in different places. Pupils are encouraged to read newspapers, magazines, listen to the news and use information technology to widen their knowledge of this subject.

The aims of this course are to:-
• appreciate that the study of geography is dynamic
• acquire knowledge and understanding of a range of places and environments, from local to global
• develop a sense of place and an appreciation of the environment
• develop an understanding of global citizenship
• understand the significance and efforts of people’s values and attitudes, in how decisions are made
• acquire and apply mapwork, fieldwork and ICT skills and techniques

This fieldwork is based on a particular aspect of the syllabus and it must include the collection of primary and secondary data. It is started at the end of the L5 year when everyone goes on a fieldtrip to collect data. It is handed in during the first term of the U5 year.

Geography is a very broad subject, unique in bridging the arts and the sciences. It makes sense of the confused world, by helping pupils understand certain fundamental concepts and issues. Geography is a good preparation for adult and working life, in a rapidly changing world. Pupils acquire a wide range of skills through the study of Geography and these provide the key to a wide choice of careers in accountancy, law, environmental planning, journalism, publishing and many more.
