AQA 3581 Specification A 60% Coursework Assessment 40% Examination
Length of Examination: 2 hours
Coursework (2 practical lessons per week)
This is concerned with the candidate's practical performance in a number of activities. These fall into five groups:
1. Games:- Lacrosse, netball, tennis, rounders (squash)
2. Gymnastics:- Artistic/compositional
3. Dance
4. Athletics
5. Swimming:- Competitive swimming, life saving or personal survival.
All candidates follow a 6-8 week course in each of the activities from groups 1, 4 and 5. Girls are assessed on their ability to perform skills in isolated and competitive situations, and there is a written test on rules and regulations at the end of every block.
Final course work submissions are based on the four highest scores taken from at least two activity groups.
Girls with particular expertise in gymnastics, dance or squash may be able to offer these activities for assessment.
There is an overall emphasis on the candidate’s ability to plan, perform and evaluate their own and others performances.
Written Paper: 1 x 2 hours (2 theory lessons per week)
This is divided into two areas - Health related exercise 24%
Sport in Society 16%
The topics covered in each of these areas are as follows.

Health Fitness Respiratory system
Diet Hygiene Cardiovascular system
Injuries Safety Circulatory system
Factors affecting performance Skeletal and muscular systems
There is a large physiological element to several of these sections.
