OCR Syllabus A - 1930 20% Coursework 80% Examination
Length of Examination: Two exams of 1 hour 30 minutes each

[NB - This course should not be confused with the short course GCSE in Religious Studies which is compulsory for all those who do not take this full GCSE course in Religious Studies as one of their options.]


Paper 1. - Christianity through a study of Luke’s Gospel

Paper 2. - Christian Perspectives on Personal, Social and World Issues


Internal Assessment
Two pieces of coursework, each of approximately 1500 words related to papers 1 and 2.

Papers 1 and 2 are each worth 40% of the final grade and are each assessed by an examination of one and a half hours. Each piece of coursework is worth 10%.


Paper 1

Candidates should be aware of the influence of the particular emphasis which Luke brings to his writings. The following themes, as presented in Luke’s writings, and their modern-day implications, should be explored:

The nature of God
Jesus as Messiah
Jesus the healer
The Holy Spirit
The Eucharist
The nature of Christian discipleship
Christian life



Paper 2

Background:
Christian ways of making moral decisions
Love as a guiding Christian principle

Issues for study:
Marriage and divorce; relationships within the family
Birth and death
Prejudice and equality
War, peace and human rights
Christian responsibility for the planet
Christian responsibility towards disadvantaged people.
