AQA 3204 60% Coursework 40% Controlled Tests
Length of Examination: 10 hours (four week preparatory period)

GCSE Textiles is an exciting and challenging course that explores art and design through the medium of creative Textiles. You will learn new skills such as batik, tie dye and print methods and build upon other techniques of stitched and constructed textiles such as felt making, appliqué, quilting, hand and machine embroidery.

The course is designed to develop your individual creative strengths.

A number of visits to galleries and exhibitions are arranged throughout the course.

Course Content
During the two years you will be completing three units of coursework supported by sketchbooks, A1 Preparatory boards and a practical outcome. Bodices, evening purses, belts, wall hangings and masks are examples of some of the possible final outcomes.

60% Coursework comprising of three units based on themes of:

• Design
• Colour
• Texture

40% Controlled Test - 10 hour practical exam

• You will answer one question (design brief) from the exam paper and have four weeks in which to research, develop your ideas and plan your final realisation. You will then make and complete your final outcome in the ten hour exam (arranged over a two week period).

All work is internally marked and externally moderated by AQA.
The assessment objectives are:-
• A01: Record observations, experiences and ideas in forms that are appropriate to intentions.
• A02: Analyse and evaluate images, objects and artefacts showing understanding of context.
• A03: Develop and explore ideas using media, processes and resources, reviewing, modifying and refining work as it progresses.
• A04: Present a personal response, realising intentions and making informed connections with the work of others.

Studying Textiles at GCSE can lead into a range of exciting career opportunities including fashion/textile design, interior design, fashion promotion, costume/theatre design.
