This year Culture Vultures celebrated its fifteenth anniversary! Since January 1994 we have been on more than 75 trips. These have ranged from visits to art galleries, the opera, theatre and ballet, and have also included visits to a National Trust House, a Sculpture Garden, a fashion show during Graduates Fashion Week and an African percussion ensemble, to name but a few.
Culture Vultures is not an exclusive society but is open to everyone in the school. Trips are arranged out of school hours and advertised on the CV board, where girls can sign up if they are interested. By the time they reach VIth form level there are usually several students who have discovered a real taste for the opera. Similarly, many grow to understand the thinking behind modern or conceptual art, and can take much pleasure in being able to 'read' a work of art and respond to it in their own individual way.
Staff and parents are also most welcome on the trips if space permits!

Sir Terry Pratchett’s “Nation” at the National Theatre - a fantastically theatrical production. It was a particularly mixed group this time, which was lovely, with every single year group represented from UIII right through to UVI. “An amazing performance and fantastic special effects - a great contrast between different societies and choices in life. The rude parrot was hilarious!” “The costumes, the technology, the music, the dancing - they all combined to be one of the most memorable plays I have seen yet! Eye-catching and utterly breath-taking!”
-
Lee Hall’s “The Pitmen Painters”, a brilliant and very funny play, thoroughly enjoyed by a group of senior artists, together with a good number of highly appreciative adults! We were treated to the customary Friday evening live jazz both before and after the performance, which contributed so much to the overall enjoyment of the whole evening. “Hilarious.... Inspirational... Those who don’t see beauty in Art should see this - it might change their minds... Fantastic performance throughout.... Proud to be an artist!.... ”
-
“Van Gogh - the Artist and his Letters” at the Royal Academy, Friday 26th February. This is the first major exhibition of the artist’s works in London for 40 years - a milestone in the exhibition world.

Henry Moore exhibition at Tate Britain.
There was a lot of media interest in this very substantial exhibition, with supporting TV programmes.
