Symes House for Year 7 (U3) boarders
|
Symes is a detached house in the school grounds surrounded by pleasant gardens. The Housemistress, Mrs Church is also the Biology Department Technician.
Girls boarding for the first time, find that living in a small community with a caring, family atmosphere enables them to gain confidence in their new surroundings. The new girls have already met each other for two weekends before they start in September. This gives them a head start as they have already made friends with each other before school starts, so they do not feel so new and strange.
The dorms are light and spacious and every half term they change who they share a dorm with. There is a large common room for relaxing in and a quiet room where the girls can finish off their prep. or use the computers. After school the girls change into mufti and many of them go off to participate in activities such as music, art, pottery, sport, and drama. The girls do their preparation in their House between 5.30pm and 7.00pm. Supper is at 7.00pm and then they can chill out or enjoy further activities such as swimming, art club, cookery and drama. Hot chocolate and toast is in much demand before they go to bed at 8.30pm.
