If you are a new parent to St. Catherine’s I should like to welcome you on behalf of the Parent Teacher Association. If you are an existing parent you will already know that we have a thriving PTA which is open to each of you!
It is made up of volunteers from parents and teaching staff with the sole objective of enhancing the social link between the school and the parents. During each year we hold many events of our own. During the Autumn Term we hold the PTA Lecture and later on the annual Christmas Party. In the Spring Term it is the PTA Quiz Night. These events are very popular and very well attended. We also support school functions by providing a bar and on Speech Day you will certainly notice the PTA presence - consisting of Bar, Barbeque, Ice Cream, Strawberries and even an ever increasing range of St. Catherine’s Crockery, Umbrellas & Aprons! We also arrange year group coffee mornings and drinks parties and here you will have the opportunity to meet the other parents whose daughters are in the same year as your own.
To help you and your daughters keep in touch outside school, we maintain the Year group Register. You will be amazed at how useful it will be, particularly when your daughter forgets her friend’s telephone number!
We collect money, we raise it and we spend it, on behalf of the school on those items that we should not expect the school to provide. Such items include: - Digital cameras, Camcorders, Lighting sets, Music Stands, Garden Games, Software, Display Cabinets and whatever else is required. Furthermore, we manage the excellent second hand uniform shop and offer Bursaries for leavers.
You will probably notice that with the school fees, you are invited to pay a subscription each year, per family, to the PTA. We do value your subscription but, if for any reason you do not agree with this, you are at liberty not to do so. We also need your support, as each year, when members of the sixth form leave, so too do their parents, who help to make up the PTA. So we always need more support to replace the leavers. Perhaps you would like to join us? If you are interested in finding out more, please contact me.
You can write to me at the school or contact me by e-mail. For now, I hope that I have summarised our role, but please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you at some or all of the many events that will take place during the forthcoming year.
